These proposals, which include limiting access to jobseekers allowance to a period of three months, will reduce the benefits bill by just £100million a year. Ebola virus is a ‘threat’ to UK says Philip Hammond, as Government calls emergency Cobra meeting in response to deadly disease
‘The Government is to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the “threat” to the UK from the Ebola virus, the Foreign Secretary has said.
Philip Hammond said he would chair the meeting of the Cobra committee, which will begin coordinating Britain’s response to the spread of a disease that has killed more than 670 people in West Africa.
It comes after Public Health England’s global health chief told The Independent that officials have been briefing doctors, Government bodies and the UK Border Agency on what to do if Ebola arrives in Britain.’

‘David Cameron is to announce tough action on immigration that will halve the amount of time foreigners can claim benefits in the UK.
The Coalition will introduce laws to ensure that European Union migrants can only claim out-of-work benefits for three months, Mr Cameron says in an article for The Telegraph.
The Prime Minister also pledges to stop more than 500,000 British jobs being advertised across the EU and announces tough new curbs on colleges offering visas to “bogus” students.’

‘A group of illegal immigrants have been caught trying to leave the UK and smuggle themselves into France by hiding in a lorry on a cross-channel ferry.
The Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Afghani and Sri Lankan nationals were caught by French border police when the P&O Spirit of France docked in Calais on Tuesday.
Two families – including two children – and another 22 men had stowed away in a Polish lorry.
All 28 immigrants were returned to Dover at 6.40pm that evening on P&O’s Pride of Canterbury.’

‘We don’t want you here’: TV crew heckled and accused of ‘inciting racial disharmony’ in Southampton at showdown meeting with producers of Immigration Street
‘Angry residents this week accused TV producers of inciting racial hatred as they met to discuss filming of a documentary on immigration in their road.
Residents of the Derby Road area in Southampton came face to face with the Love Productions crew and vented their anger about the show called Immigration Street.
The programme is billed as a follow on from Channel 4′s controversial Benefits Street which aired earlier this year and sparked a nationwide debate about welfare in Britain.
Last night, furious residents with banners and placards heckled creative director Kieran Smith, telling him: ‘We don’t want you here’.’

‘Britain has no hope of limiting free movement of workers around the EU, the likely future European Commission president said tonight.
Jean-Claude Juncker said EU member states could combat abuse of their systems but the basic right of workers to be able to move around the union was fundamental and not up for negotiation.
He was quizzed in the European Parliament by members of the UK Independence Party and its sister eurosceptic parties including from Italy and Sweden as part of his campaign to win MEPs’ support as next Commission president.’
