Sign The Petition For An Inquiry Into The Benefit Sanctions That Killed David Clapson

by johnny void
MAIN--David-ClapsonThe family of David Clapson - the former soldier who recently died after his benefits were stopped as punishment for missing a meeting at the Jobcentre - have launched a petitioncalling for an inquiry into benefit sanctions.
In his sister's own words:
"My brother, David Clapson, a diabetic ex-soldier, died starving and destitute because he was penalised by the Job Centre for missing a meeting.
"David had his £71.70 weekly allowance stopped meaning that he couldn’t afford food or electricity. He was penniless, starving and alone. His electricity card was out of credit meaning the fridge where he should have kept his diabetes insulin chilled was not working. Three weeks after his benefits were stopped he died from diabetic ketoacidosis – caused by not taking his insulin.
"David wasn’t a “scrounger”. He had worked for 29 years; 5 years in the Army – including two years in Northern Ireland in the 1970s, during the height of the troubles – 16 years with British Telecom, eight years with various other companies, and in recent years was a carer for our sick mother. When mum went into a home, David turned to the state for help, receiving benefits while he looked for work and taking unpaid work placements.
"When he died he had just £3.44 to his name, six tea bags, a tin of soup and an out-of-date can of sardines. A coroner also found he had no food in his stomach.
"People turn to the state when they are in need - that is what the system is for - a safety net for hard working people like my brother when they need a bit of support. That £71.70 a week was his lifeline. To withhold it from him for missing one meeting is cruel. And the heartbreaking thing is that he was really trying. CVs for job applications were found near David’s body. He had been on work placements, passed his fork lift truck certificate and had been on a computer training course."
Please sign, share, tweet and blog this. Let's make sure this tragic story does not go away.
You can also sign the petition calling for benefits sanctions to be scrapped  without exceptions.

Palestine Solidarity activists in London occupied a UK government building yesterday to demand an immediate end to arms sales to Israel.

Palestine Solidarity activists in London occupied a UK government building yesterday to demand an immediate end to arms sales to Israel.

‘As Israel launched its ground invasion of Gaza, the London Palestine Action group took action at the Cabinet Office on Whitehall, protesting the British government’s support for the slaughter of Palestinians by Israel. The Cabinet Office is the UK government department responsible for supporting the prime minister.
Approximately 30 activists occupied the building for 45 minutes, some locking themselves to railings inside the building to prevent the police from removing them, including myself.
The group chanted slogans calling on the UK government to impose a military embargo on Israel.’

Greenpeace-viral video calling on LEGO to break its lucrative partnership with oil giant Shell has been REMOVED from YouTube!

By : Unknown

I think we might have offended someone. This morning I learned that our viral video calling on LEGO to break its lucrative partnership with oil giant Shell has been REMOVED from YouTube!
This video is the most-watched video  in Greenpeace history. Today, corporate interests are trying to shut down our efforts to expose the LEGO-Shell partnership for what it really is.
But we won’t give up that easily. Click here to watch the video they don’t want you to see and sign the fast-growing petition asking LEGO to dump Shell.
Shell needs LEGO because everything else it does is so bad - from being a driving force in the climate crisis to planning to drill in the home of polar bears. They want to use the positive image of popular brands to masquerade as a semi-responsible company.
It looks like LEGO and its corporate pals are more offended by a video than by the idea of Shell’s plan to drill for Arctic oil. Despite the real risk of a terrible and unstoppable oil spill in icy, pristine waters, Shell is determined to  plunder every last drop of oil it can.
Watch the video and add your name to the petition:

Just like it’s not OK for a tobacco company to market to children, an oil company has no place promoting its brand on kids’ toys. So that's why we’re asking LEGO to show the world - and our children - that an ethical company won't work with Shell.
LEGO said last week that it’s “determined to leave a positive impact on society and the planet”.  So are we! That’s why we’re working together to protect our oceans, rainforests and the Arctic.
If LEGO cares about kids, it will dump Shell, and together we can make it happen.  Watch the video and sign the petition: https://secure.greenpeace.org.uk/legovideo2
Thanks,
Fran
PS. We love LEGO. But by partnering with Shell, LEGO has let itself down and put the Arctic in danger of risky oil drilling. The more people that join in the more pressure LEGO will feel: https://secure.greenpeace.org.uk/legovideo2
